Talking about the why behind this land
I need to give important context before writing and that is I am apart of the culture that we are trying to counter, I am an internet marketer who uses Google's, Amazon's, Meta/Facebooks, etc. spyware to get the awareness, consideration, and conversion of humans like you and I to make revenue. Thankfully I was blessed with selling a product that helps people and people can benefit from - that is what keeps my asleep at night. This is not the case with most companies ESPECIALLY in my field (health). The internet is the greatest "place" besides Earth, that is clear based on what we spend our most precious resource on which is time. It is a place where the origianl intent was connection with a greater benefit of a library of knowledge and wisdom for everyone on the planet. Knowledge was moving faster than ever. At the same time, there was a clear movement towards how fast money moves on the internet, now money can move faster than ever. Many can see where there is going and decides to capatilize, and then more people, then more companies started driving to here and this begins the web 2.0 downfall - monetization. Everything soon after on the internet was involving money, everyone was becoming a promoter - blogs turned into referral pages with giant ad banners, more and more vidoes turned into to the intent with selling something rather than out of the passion of the creator, search engines started promoting not what the user wanted (although still slightly considers it) but bids out the top spot of your search to the highest bidder. This brings me to the next giant catalyst to the end of the free internet: Algorithms. Algorithm by nature is not a bad thing, it can be used for good - in fact Google became the monopoly they are because of how fast it was/is and how good their algorithm is. To this day, as much as I like Startpage, DuckDuckGo, etc. the performance of Google is still #1. For the algorithm to work perfectly, the brilliant engineers knew they needed data to make it as optimized as possible for the user to get the best results possible and that is what they did, for most users I imagine they have tons of cookies in their browser and Google and others have a very good idea of who you are. My journey started with cryptography when I was young, I would make large Caesar Ciphers in class and played with them - when I was older I began studying the goverement and economics and quickly realized how flawed the goverement is - as flawed as they are, they are a necessary evil and I am blessed to live in the United States where as of 2025, the United States Dollar (USD$) remains the worlds reserve currency. This made me realize that as long as the govermenet keeps printing money, most items with limited quantity will increase in value and that our $100 bill is weakening every second. Subscriptions woke me up even more, with the understanding that things only get more expensive and that with subscriptions (like renting) you never see those dollars again, you never actually own anything. In the place where I live, they are now building single family homes with the intention to NOT sell them but to rent them. This is terrifying. The American dream was already far away, and now it seems like a dream for most Americans. All of these "strategic" decisions that companies are making are fiscally smart for them, I cannot blame them however all of this is made easier with the amount of data that is free and open about people like you and I. My journey started with the intent of acting on our American value of liberty and therefore privacy. I want and yearn to be more private. I love the new technology actively but it is becoming increasingly obvious that most new technology, is in the need of harvesting more data. You see this with AI considerably where the whole program primarily works based off all the data being fed to it. The lack of consent, the lack of liberty, the lack of decentralization - our founding fathers would be rolling in their graves and that is an understatement. You throw the lack of truth and you have a world with far too many problems. Web 2.0 is what those "capitalists take over" movies/games make fun of but is in fact reality - greed which comes from pride. The internet is now a double edged sword, more knowledge than ever, more of turning you into a product. When they are using average revenue per user as a metric that is not good. Thankfully we are human. We have free will and choices (at least for those of us in the United States (for the most part)). We can say NO MORE to being the product. I won't lie with you, it is not easy and I do not expect everyone to make giant steps, but my mentors always tell me do you want to be someone that goes up to bat 10 times and bats 7/10 or do you want to be someone that goes up to bat 1000 times and hits 700/1000? Small steps, and making a decentralized .html website where YOU are the admin over everything is a great step and can stand the test of time and not end up like a Myspace page. I have also personally decreased my daily phone usage to 1 hour a day (mostly on games on my phone) and switched primarily to the Light Phone 3 (highly recommend), I use StartPage with Proton VPN however I must confess I still use Windows 11 and Microsoft Edge (I switched from Fedora & LibreWolf but plan on switching back soon). Social Media is still on my phone but I maybe check it for a few minutes a day (what a waste of time). Time is our most valuable asset, spend it on things that matter and have a large moral return of investment - you will never regret spending time with loved ones once we are on our deathbeds. Protect your rights that were paid with blood, please please read the Constituion and Decleration of Independence just once, even though it was in the late 1700s it speaks volume today of the risks. I understand I bring up a lot of "political" things if you believe it is that and I want to mention that I am not a republican nor democrat and do not prefer any of the recent administrations, anytime you involve the goverement in anything, it seems like a total disaster.
